Karaoke Machine Etiquette

It might not seem like it, but karaoke is governed by some pretty serious rules. It can be easy to lose sight of etiquette if you are familiar with common depictions of acne in TV and movies. But in a more realistic setting with real people, it’s not just about wild singing adventures surrounded by drunken strangers. As time goes on, karaoke is losing its label as being corny and unprofessional since there are many new karaoke rooms with fancy features that attract a clientele that is extremely interested in karaoke as a hobby. These people take karaoke seriously and if they expect the best of behaviour from people who share their stage. If you don’t want to get lost in the mix and find yourself on the outside looking in, here are some karaoke etiquette tips to make sure you fit in. Read the rest of this entry »

The Music Of Great Movies

I remember a time, when music for movies actually had something to do with the movies themselves.  I think it was during the seventies and eighties when watching movies was a major preoccupation of mine.  Now that I can watch full movies online, it seems to be even more obvious.  Especially as I drift back to those early movies and watch a few of them.  Movies like Carwash, actually had a song specifically written for it called Carwash.  Strange I know, but seemed to make sense back then.  then we seem to go through a period, when a movie soundtrack simply meant a collection of some of the most popular songs that were on the charts when the movie was released.  Seems kinda like an easy way out for the movie producers to me.

The movie Falling Leaves is one where I particularly liked the music that was in it.  It’s hard to pinpoint exactly the type of music I enjoy, but over the years I’ve learned to stop trying to understand the music and simply go with it.  Another exciting movie which is pretty slick these days is Shadow Hours.  A bit of a thriller for those inclined to that genre, and well worth a look.  Given that I have a love for boating and sail boating in general, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention The Salton Sea.  Just another fine example, of why sometimes it’s just good to go with your gut instincts and enjoy the flick.

The full range of headphones

Like most things in life, there are headphones to suit most people, tastes and budgets. Here we have a little list which might just help you decide which type is right for you.

Big, professional headphones. You know the ones I mean. The type which appear in the more serious  type of 80s music videos, where the singer is earnestly crooning in the studio while the love interest is looking a him/her from behind the glass, apparently not put off by the oversized headphones he/she is wearing. Modern versions are much more subtle and fashionable but the biggest benefit to this type of headphone is always going to be the detailed music performance that they deliver, although current audio technology means that the smaller sets are not so far behind them in quality as they perhaps once were. The Music Of Finding A Gem Of A Site

It never ceases to amaze me, how truly endless the internet is.  So many great websites, and content out there that it is completely impossible to get to all the good stuff in just one lifetime.  There are whole little cultures out there it seems.  Mini networks of sites that tend to connect to each other and share both a common interest and a similar perspective on that interest.  I read a cartoon a while back on the internet that showed some guy just surfing the internet.  Eventually he got to a page that said something like “Stop! You’ve now reached the end of the internet.”  That was a few years ago, and although it was funny at the time, I now know just how unlikely the possibility of it ever happening are. Watching Movies And A Little Night Music

I could watch movie after movie some days. I never get tired of it. I think I inherited the ability from my father. He was always going out to the movies, to see just about anything. I think it’s something about being a story teller (which he was), that makes one like to listen to more stories.  It’s kind of where you get information for more interesting stories of your own.  Read the rest of this entry »
