The Music Of Finding A Gem Of A Site

It never ceases to amaze me, how truly endless the internet is.  So many great websites, and content out there that it is completely impossible to get to all the good stuff in just one lifetime.  There are whole little cultures out there it seems.  Mini networks of sites that tend to connect to each other and share both a common interest and a similar perspective on that interest.  I read a cartoon a while back on the internet that showed some guy just surfing the internet.  Eventually he got to a page that said something like “Stop! You’ve now reached the end of the internet.”  That was a few years ago, and although it was funny at the time, I now know just how unlikely the possibility of it ever happening are.

To me though, that’s part of what makes the internet so fascinating.  Knowing that there are all kinds of great websites out there with interesting people behind them and topics and perspectives I never before imagined.  Websites are growing at an incredible pace, and it’s no wonder that careers like web design, internet marketing, and web programming are in such high demand.  I suppose, the other thing that has fascinated me about the web ever since I started on it back in the mid nineties, is how you can connect with tiny niches.  I remember first getting back into reading sci-fi at the time, and I read the first three books of The Dragonriders Of Pern series.  Shortly after finishing the books, I found a discussion group on the web totally dedicated to the books.  No one I knew in real life had an interest in the books, so this was a great outlet for me.  Ever since then, I continue to be addicted to the wonderful world wide web.
